How to maintain sealed surfaces?

In order to ensure that your sealant stands the test of time it needs to be maintained properly and cleaned regularly. Because, once mould starts to set in the sealant, it is almost impossible to remove.

• Regular cleaning: soap and other residues can propagate bacteria growth upon the sealant. Cleaning bathroom sealant regularly with a suitable product will keep it in good condition for many years.
• Ventilation: to prevent a build up of condensation, sanitary rooms need to be properly ventilated and joints dried quickly after water exposure. Try to avoid having sections of sealant where water can build up, there should be no dips in the sealant. Wipe the seal after every use to ensure that it remains as dry as possible.
• As soon as you notice mould specks on the sealants surface, clean it with a product containing vinegar or bleach. Take proper safety precautions while using these products: wear gloves, protective clothing and work in a well-ventilated area.
• Once the mould has already spread to deeper layers of the sealant or if the seal is damaged or detached, there isn’t very much you can do, other than replace it.

Making sure you are using the right sanitary sealant, applying it correctly and looking after it regularly guarantees crisp and clean sanitary joints for many years to come.
