Sealing window joints

To minimise heat losses in window connections, the joints between the window frame and wall must be sealed with a construction foam. For window installation, it is important to choose a PU foam that has an elastic structure, and is therefore able to move with the building’s deformations, and has excellent thermal- and sound-insulation values. Before applying the PU foam, the window must be mechanically fixed and supported according to the window manufacturer’s instructions. When applying the PU foam, the surfaces must be pre-moistened to ensure a uniform foam structure.

        Sealing window tins

To guarantee a weatherproof window joint, it is important to remember to seal the window tin with an elastic and weatherproof sealant.

          Installing windowsills

Compared to traditional methods, gluing the windowsill with an adhesive foam saves time, improves the window’s sound- and thermal insulation and helps to prevent the appearance of thermal bridges.

            Air- and vapour-proofing windows

To avoid heat losses, condensation and mould growth, the window and wall connecting joints should be sealed from the inside with air- and vapour-proof tapes.

Installing construction boards to the window jamb

The easiest way to install construction boards to the window jamb is to use one of Penosil’s adhesive foams. The adhesive foam saves time, improves the window’s sound-and thermal insulation and helps to prevent the appearance of thermal bridges.

Sealing joints between windowsill and window frame

One of the last steps in window installation is the final sealing and filling of window joints. For this work, it is highly recommended to use sealants with the right properties and high elasticity.

For this type of works, we recommend using sealants with high flexibility and using our patented spatula during product application. By strategically applying more sealant in the corners during installation, the joints can better withstand deformations. Despite efforts to minimize cracks, sealing work is often still necessary on-site due to the significant risk of cracks occurring during transportation.
