What does the c in the product name stand for?

17.04.2023

All Penosil products have a dedicated name and number. Among sealants you can notice some numbers with a “c” in the end. But what does this mean?

All numbers ending with “c” are coloured sealants. However, the “c” meaning is more complicated than just being coloured. The “c” does not mean “colour”, it stands for “solid filler”. There can be different fillers, most often chalk or talc.

Fillers are non-reactive components to achieve the desired properties such as greater hardness and matte finish. The complicated part is that, in most cases, products with a “c” are coloured, but some coloured sealants are without added solid filler, i.e. without the “c”.

For products where the colour has the “c”, the technical parameters are somewhat different compared to the unfilled version (with the same number). There can also be differences in the CE marking. For this reason, we differentiate unfilled and filled sealants with a “c”.

Nevertheless, the application and product properties are 100% the same for both versions. This is why we keep the same name.

All Penosil products where the number ends with “c” are coloured sealants but not all coloured sealants have a “c” behind the number.

Why are fillers used in some cases and not in others?

We add fillers to colours to give them a matte look, make the sealant’s body a little stronger and increase the hardness of the sealant’s surface. Also, in some cases, the filler reduces the loss of volume somewhat. At the same time, the sealant retains its elasticity and movement capability.

Why do not all coloured sealants have a “c”?

There can be different reasons – for example, a glossier or shiny finish is needed, a softer sealant is demanded, etc.

Are there transparent sealants with a “c”?

Fillers such as chalk or talc are white and therefore there cannot be a transparent version of filled sealant.

Where can I find the colour of the product?

It can be found in two places on label. It is either on the label design right after product name or it is printed on top of the label next to the “best before”.
