Your free access to mandatory PU training

27.03.2023

As of 24 August 2023, training is required for all professional and industrial users of polyurethane foams, adhesives and sealants with a total monomeric diisocyanate concentration of > 0.1%.

As a member of FEICA, the Association of the European Adhesive & Sealant Industry, Wolf Group provides free access for its house-brand Penosil customers. The training platform is developed by FEICA in cooperation with ISOPA and ALIPA, the diisocyanate manufacturers’ industry associations. It is available in several EU languages and can be accessed here:

The voucher code is FEICA_21_G.

Information about this requirement and a link to the training can also be found on Penosil´s foam labels. After passing the test at the end of the course, the participant receives a certificate valid for five years.

Isocyanates are commonly used as reactive chemicals in the production of polyurethanes, which are used in a wide range of applications, including insulation. It is important to emphasise that there are no free isocyanate groups in final products because they react completely during the curing process in reaction with humidity.

To help ensure the safe use of isocyanates, the training program covers a range of topics, including the health effects of isocyanates (mainly allergies), use of protective equipment and more. It also complies with the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation.

The training does not replace or amend other health and safety requirements but is additional to them. Builders should follow a range of best practice to ensure the safe use of polyurethanes:

  • Wear appropriate protective equipment, including gloves, goggles, etc.
  • Work in a well-ventilated room to reduce exposure to isocyanates.
  • Store the products in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct sunlight.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s technical and safety instructions.

By following these guidelines and the online training material, construction workers can help ensure their safety while achieving the best possible results with PU foam. Read more: www.safeusediisocyanates.eu
