Glass facade weathersealing

The definition of weathersealing is the sealing of exterior façade joints against the influence of weathering, such as UV, rainwater, driving rain, etc., and against the influence of various other factors, such as chemical and mechanical loads that may eventually cause damage. The key factors that façade weathersealant needs to cope with are protection from weathering, compensation for movements of façade elements, and aesthetic appearance.

Glass is a complicated, non-porous material that demands a special glazing sealant for weatherproofing joints.

To ensure the proper size and shape of sealant in the joint and to avoid triple adhesion, a backer rod must be used.

For long-lasting, weatherproof joints, a neutral curing silicone with high movement capability must be used to compensate for deformation in the joint without losing elasticity or adhesion.

Glazing Silicone 330 – a high-quality neutral alkoxy silicone sealant with excellent adhesive properties and low modulus. Forms a flexible rubber seal with many porous and non-porous materials.

An alternative product is Building Silicone 322 – a multipurpose neutral silicone sealant with high movement capability and excellent adhesive properties. Forms a mould-proof and ageing-resistant, flexible, silicone rubber seal.
